Meet the 2024 Cohort
CFW is proud to announce the 2024 Willie’s Warriors Leadership Initiative cohort. The 19 Warriors represent a cross-section of Black women and nonbinary leaders from diverse backgrounds, sectors, and industries. This year, we celebrate over 100 warriors who have gone through the program during what would have been Rev. Barrow’s 100th birthday.
Over eight months, the Warriors will gain a better sense of themselves as leaders and develop skills related to systems change, economic empowerment, communications, and strategic alliances, while building a close-knit support network with their fellow Warriors.

Erika Allen (she/her) is the Co-Founder & CEO of Urban Growers Collective and the President of Green ERA Educational NFP and Co-Owner of Green Era Sustainability Partners. Previously, Erika founded and was the Director of Growing Power – Chicago and National Programs Officer for 16 years from 2002 to 2018. She received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago in December 2022. Erika Allen’s work exemplifies a strong commitment to sustainability with her dedication to the eradication of environmental injustice and promotion of regenerative, urban agriculture within Chicago. Her commitment to the public sector through the promotion of sustainable agriculture, forging economic opportunities for low-income individuals and creating access to healthy food has made a strong and considerable impact on the City of Chicago. Erika has dedicated her professional career to public service, developing sustainable community food systems and addressing structural racism and its inherent barriers to justice.
Jasmin Brown
Jasmin Brown
Jasmin is an agile and strategic HR leader that champions building effective teams and fostering positive workplace culture. Jasmin is currently the Director of People & Strategy at The Uplift Agency, a sustainability and social impact consulting firm. At Uplift, she leads a modern, inclusive HR strategy that empowers its team and strategically aligns business growth. With over 11 years of experience in HR leadership, Jasmin has a knack for understanding what makes employees tick, finding innovative solutions to HR challenges, and inspiring employee engagement. She has notable experience in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and creative methods to tackle today’s hiring challenges. In her previous role, Jasmin led recruitment as the HR Recruitment Manager at NOW Foods, a leading international natural products manufacturer of vitamins and supplements based in Illinois. During her eight-year career at NOW, she held multiple leadership positions with a proven track record of success including developing and executing HR strategies, helping build a more inclusive and diverse culture, and leading the company’s high-growth staffing needs. Prior to NOW Foods, Jasmin was an HR Manager & HR District leader with Target Corporation for over four years in the Chicagoland area. Jasmin's passion for HR extends beyond her day to day, leading her to start Untapped HR in 2022, a consulting business aimed at helping small businesses develop modern HR practices, provide strategic support, and support local entrepreneurship. Jasmin is committed to giving back to her community. She currently serves as a recent Associate Board Member of New Moms, an organization dedicated to supporting and empowering young mothers. Additionally, Jasmin has actively contributed to job and college fairs in the Chicagoland area by leading resume and career workshops. She holds an MBA from Benedictine University and a Bachelor’s degree in communications from Millikin University. To stay ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving HR landscape, Jasmin is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management with a Senior Certified Professional certification (SHRM-SCP). In November 2023, Jasmin earned a certification in Diversity and Inclusion - HR Leadership through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). Jasmin lives in Chicago with her husband and dog, Honcho. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, catching up on sports and fashion, and cycling challenges with her Peloton community

Currently serving as an Associate Director at Brandtrust, a market research and brand strategy firm located in Chicago, Ashley is renowned for navigating uncharted territory, crafting authentic strategy, and amplifying marginalized voices. With a passion for inclusive storytelling, she has played a pivotal role in executing global marketing campaigns, including one that raised an impressive $12M for clean water and humanitarian efforts worldwide, impacting over 240,000 lives.
Known for her strategic agility and collaborative approach, Ashley consistently excels in creating innovative solutions for complex problems, earning recognition for her leadership in developing proven results for several Fortune 500 companies including, Target, Estée Lauder, Capital One, Quaker Oats, and AstraZeneca.
Ashley is also a loving wife and mama to two loud and rambunctious kiddos named Weston and Zoe. While juggling the joys of parenthood with a love for exploration Ashley continuously looks for opportunities to grow as a professional and as a compassionate leader. As a proud member of ColorComm, Ashley actively contributes to fostering diversity and inclusion in the communications industry. Complementing her academic achievements, Ashley also holds a certificate in Digital and Integrated Marketing from the University of Chicago, demonstrating her commitment to staying at the forefront of the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Kim R. English is a published author, licensed minister, community organizer and certified domestic violence professional whose personal mission is to eradicate domestic abuse and assist women in their journey to self sufficiency.
She currently serves as the Domestic Violence Housing Supervisor at a citywide agency, leading teams of advocates who provide temporary housing with resources in Chicago. Kim is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MY STEPS, a Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) public charitable organization with the mission of providing domestic violence resources for women and their children.
Recently, Kim created Women Pouring Oil — an educational and public speaking entity to empower women in their spiritual journeys to wholeness. While assisting her daughter’s home-birth of her granddaughter during the pandemic, Kim’s desire to lower Chicago’s maternal mortality rate grew and she was subsequently nominated to serve UIC’s Melanated Group Midwifery Care’s stakeholder advisory board. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science, a Certificate in Psychological Assessments as well as a Master of Arts in Psychology from National Louis University.
Kim is a member of New Life Covenant Southeast under the leadership of Pastor John F. Hannah and Dr. Jermone Glenn. At New Life, Kim served as a leader in the Love Sister2Sister Women’s Ministry. She believes that her spiritual walk is the best decision she has ever made and was vital to her life’s pivots during seasonal transformations.

As the Owner of AMG Media, for over 10 years, Amber translates the art of storytelling through her lens in a manner that leaves lasting memories and subjective thoughts. Amber's photography skills are multifaceted (portraits, product, events, property, fine art, etc.). Her work has been seen in major publications such as Good Morning America, The Today New, E! News, Forbes, Ebony, Daily Mail, 60 Minutes, Pepsi, NASDAQ and many other publications. She has served as a Media Director for numerous impactful Non For Profits which has catalyzed her passion to accurately capture and digitize the stories surrounding the backbone of humanity.

The Director of Epidemiology at Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) is Dr. Alfreda Holloway-Beth, an accomplished epidemiologist with a strong background in public health. In her role, Dr. Holloway-Beth oversees all aspects of health status assessment and health planning for the agency and community-based strategic planning and program development. Her responsibilities include directing data collection, analysis, and surveillance of health status indicators for the CCDPH jurisdiction.
She provides epidemiologic leadership and guidance to all CCDPH programs, ensuring alignment with agency priorities and community needs. Dr. Holloway-Beth is actively involved in public health informatics and integrates this knowledge into the organization and community partnerships.
Her work focuses on improving health equity and addressing disparities in health outcomes. Through her leadership and expertise, she plays a crucial role in shaping public health policies and initiatives at CCDPH.

Erica S. Hubbard, Director of Chicago Programs, oversees the foundation's currrent in-community programming and piloting of programming for the Obama Presidential Center.
As the former Associate Director of Civic Relations & Partnerships at the Art Institute of Chicago, she connected the world-famous museum’s programming, events and key civic messages to historically underrepresented areas of Chicago, focusing on the Black and Brown communities of the city’s South and West Sides.
Erica’s work across the museum’s departments contributed to some of the largest attendance-driving programs the Art Institute has seen in recent years including The Obama Portraits in their initial tour stop in Chicago, as well as a surge in younger, diverse crowds attending Bisa Butler: Portraits, the museum’s best attended textile exhibition in its history.
In addition, Erica managed community programming for the 4th Ward community, under the leadership of Alderman Sophia King.
She is a proud alumna of Howard University and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Erica shares her time with a number of organizations including Illinois Humanities, the Arts Alliance of Illinois, 3Arts, Harriet's Daughters and the Night Ministry.

Ashonti Jackson (she/her) is a seasoned professional and advocate serving as the Regional Council Manager for Region 1-B-C (Cook South) with Birth to Five Illinois. With over a decade of dedicated experience in the nonprofit sector, Ashonti has cultivated a diverse skill set through case management, home visiting, and early education roles. Over the past three years, she has demonstrated a profound commitment to fostering collaborative initiatives within early learning communities, specifically focusing on developing robust systems to support families facing significant challenges.
A distinguished graduate of Alabama A&M University, Ashonti holds a bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science. Her academic background and her hands-on experience have equipped her with a unique expertise in building and nurturing community collaborations. Ashonti is adept at crafting outreach strategies that provide essential family support, reflecting her commitment to creating equitable opportunities for all.
Ashonti strongly believes that Black women's power in leadership positions is a transformative force that brings resilience, innovation, and a unique perspective to the forefront of various sectors. Black women, historically marginalized and underrepresented, have broken through barriers, showcasing their exceptional capabilities, and contributing significantly to positive change.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Ashonti is a fervent community organizer, leveraging her extensive volunteer experience to make a positive impact. In her leisure time, she actively mentors middle school girls, embodying her commitment to the mentorship and empowerment of young minds. As a devoted mother to her daughter, Ashonti understands the importance of instilling values of community engagement and social responsibility.

Keneatha is a vibrant community advocate, an unparalleled people connector, and a true powerhouse leader. As the senior director of safety and emergency preparedness at the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, she orchestrated a symphony, meeting members' needs and ensuring governmental stakeholders had crucial data and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Propelled by an incessant ardor for service, Keneatha fearlessly tackles challenges, embodying an infectious commitment to achieving her goals. With over a decade of experience in public and private health sectors, her unwavering determination makes her the ideal leader to bring victory home as the anchor leg in the relay race. She steers dynamic teams through scalable projects, from managing multi-million budgets and crafting statewide response plans to formulating regional mitigation strategies. Recognized as a national speaker on healthcare safety and preparedness, Keneatha thrives in curating statewide exercises and coordinating responses for significant events like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) convention, Presidential visits, and World Series.
Beyond her professional journey, Keneatha finds her greatest joy in multifaceted roles as a wife, mother, mentor, and community advocate. Her devotion to motivating and educating marginalized voices for positive change echoes through board positions at Life Without Limitations and M.E.A.N. Girls Empowerment. A member of the Chicago Metropolitan Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, she seamlessly weaves her steadfast zeal for serving into every aspect of her involvement. Equipped with a master’s in public health, Keneatha approaches every life journey with enthusiasm, determination, and a steadfast willingness to succeed.
Shaniqua Jones

Dr. Shaniqua Jones is a Global Leader and Restorative Justice Practitioner, Expert. Affectionately known as Dr. J and for her brilliant ability to connect deeply with those who have been harmed and have caused harm through Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices. Dr. J has been called upon to remove barriers alienating and dehumanizing people from all walks of life. Dr. Jones completed her doctoral degree in Interdisciplinary Leadership specializing in Higher Education in May of 2016. She has a diverse background in academics. What separates Dr. Jones from her peers is her uncanny ability to infuse her personal and professional experiences, which allows her to connect genuinely and have a great deal of empathy for the people she serves.
In 2018, Dr. Jones was honored and inducted as a member of the 40 under 40 rising leaders into the Young Women's Professional League Chicago for her industry expertise and leadership. The global speaker founded the Purple Path for-profit organization in the spring of the following year. The organization provides sustainable and tangible resources, building competencies, relationships, and social capital in deserving communities. Recently, Dr. Jones acted as Director of Community Engagement and Diversity Programs at Trinity Christian College. The educator provided opportunities to discuss matters of the heart related to diversity and social justice by utilizing Restorative Practices. Dr. Jones advised students to serve across the country and mentored scholars through academic preparation and spiritual formation.
Serving the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement as Restorative Justice Trainer, Dr. J has solidified herself as an effective leader with significant momentum. In May of 2021, Governor Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education appointed Dr. Jones to the Whole Child Task Force. In December 2021, Dr. Jones accepted a one-year assignment as the Restorative Justice Facilitator for MacArthur Foundation - Just Imperative Working Group based on her expertise as a Restorative Justice Practitioner focused on healing and resilience. Dr. Jones also serves as Chief Educational Officer for Touch Gift Foundation.
Dr. J used her experiences as Restorative Justice Coordinator - Dean of Students at Chicago Collegiate Charter School. She also used her foundation for Restorative Justice training for churches, schools, community organizations, The Cook County Southland Juvenile Justice Council, and the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. Dr. Jones has served as a consultant-to-District Coordinator of Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices with Thornton Township High Schools District 205 for four years, ending her residency in 2022. With a global platform, as the founder of Purple Path and Jones Academy of Excellence, Dr. Jones has educated and served thousands of students, parents, guardians, educators, organizations, and more through her work rooted in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices.
Dr. Jones is a wife and mother of five biological children and an author of 12 awe-inspiring works. When she isn’t impacting lives and transforming communities, you can find Dr. J sporting her favorite gym shoes.

My name is LaTia (Tia) Lane and I am a native of Detroit, Michigan. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by trade and currently the Clinical Director of the Wellness Center at Olive-Harvey College. I am a trained circle keeper and restorative justice practitioner. I have over 10 years of experience working with survivors of trauma providing individual and group therapy. I have also done work in Kenya and Ghana with families impacted by poverty and homelessness. My work looks like building community. I do this by consistently showing up, listening to concerns & advocating for change, bringing into awareness the systems that cause us harm, and utilizing restorative practices to repair the harm.

Jacqueline Larry is a multifaceted artist, teacher, leader and visionary with years of experience in public education. She has merged her deep passion for music education with a true commitment to the work of equity and consistently leads with those values.
Jacqueline is currently the Manager of Student Programs with Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts where she leads fine arts programming for students of the city of Chicago. In her role she has had the opportunity to develop programming that has a far reaching impact on the arts that brings students a sense of belonging, joy, safety and community. She deeply believes in the power of the arts to have a transformational impact on the lives of all people.
Previously, Jacqueline held the role of a public school arts teacher as well as served in a school leadership role. In these positions Jacqueline was an avid voice for educational equity. She put her passion into practice as a member of the UIC College Prep HS DEI Task Force, as well as being involved with the Noble School’s Diverse Leaders Fellowship and Equity Quotient cohorts. She believes deeply in the work of building equitable, anti-bias, anti-racist schools, and she is most passionate about living a whole life that reflects those values.
Jacqueline obtained a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of St. Francis (Joliet, IL) and a Master of Music in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. Jacqueline is a Chicago native and currently resides on the southside of Chicago.

For over two decades, Kendra has invited individuals, communities, and organizations into a practice of deepening their capacity to move from a place of equity.
As a diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) practitioner, and social justice advocate, they have served in a myriad of roles - from being a dynamic trainer, consultant, facilitator, and director to an inspiring educator, artist, speaker, and dedicated activist. Their journey has been a vibrant tapestry of experiences, all woven into a commitment to liberating those of us most harmed by oppressive systems.
They are the founder of and equity practitioner at VIBE (Visualizing Inclusion Based in Equity) Consulting LLC where they currently hold statewide contracts with Vermont’s network of restorative justice centers, and Vermont’s Center for Crime Victim Services supporting organizations in growing their equity and anti-racism practices, as well as collaborating with a team of four subcontractors. Since launching VIBE in March 2023 they have served as a reviewer on a NASA Inclusion Plan Evaluation Panel, collaborated with state victim service provider funders to create an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Institute and Strategic Planning Guide, and co-created a diversity, equity, and inclusion series and Equity Summit with the School of Social Work at the University of Iowa.

Destinee Miguest is a remarkable individual whose diverse career and unwavering commitment to various causes have made her an influential figure in the fields of mental health/social work. Currently serving as the Clinical Director of Richard J. Daley's Wellness Center, Destinee has consistently demonstrated her passion for making a positive impact in the world.
Destinee's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The Ohio State University. She further honed her expertise by earning a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Alcohol and Drug Addictions from Loyola University Chicago.
Throughout her professional life, Destinee's path has been marked by diversity and commitment. She has held roles as a Title IX Coordinator for the Office of Inspector General and Chicago Public Schools, a Forensic Social Worker for Cook County Jail, a Clinician for Timberline Knolls Residential Facility, and a Statutory Social Worker within New Zealand's Child Services system. Each of these roles has allowed her to apply her skills and knowledge to address pressing issues at the intersections of race, mental health, and law.
Director Miguest is not only an accomplished professional but also a published author in Social Work with Groups Peer-Reviewed Journal. Her scholarly contributions underscore her commitment to advancing the mental health field.
In recognition of her dedication and leadership, Destinee was honored with the Spring 2021 Bonfire Women’s Leadership Scholarship. She is also the chair of several committees at Daley College, focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as well as the Student Intervention Team. Her multifaceted involvement includes serving as the Project SAFE Coordinator and Homeless Liaison for Daley College. Notably, she developed the Peer Education Model for City Colleges of Chicago and serves as a selected member of the Illinois Campus Cares Technical Assistance (ICC TAC) Task Force.
Destinee is also a well-rounded individual with a deep commitment to personal well-being and community service. Her hobbies include working out, staying connected with friends, and actively engaging in community service projects.
Destinee's friends and colleagues describe her with three words: tenacious, loyal, and intentional. These qualities are at the core of her character and drive her pursuit of positive change in the world.

Dr. Aginah M. Muhammad is a transformative leader with an impressive record spanning nearly 25 years in the field of education. A visionary problem solver, Dr. Muhammad has helped shape the academic landscape at the University of Illinois Chicago since joining in 2013. Her career is marked by a series of impactful leadership roles, reflecting her commitment to excellence and innovation in education. Currently serving as the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success, Dr. Muhammad has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to empowering students and fostering an environment conducive to academic and personal growth.
Having ascended through the ranks, Dr. Muhammad has demonstrated versatility and expertise in various leadership positions. As the Executive Director of the Council on Teacher Education, she played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s approach to teacher training and launch of new licensure programs. Her leadership extended to the Office of First-Year Initiatives, where she focused on creating a seamless transition for new students and fostered an environment that promoted academic exploration and student success.
Throughout her career, Dr. Muhammad’s passion for education has been a driving force in effecting positive change. She possesses a keen understanding of the challenges students face in their academic journey. Drawing on her comprehensive understanding of educational leadership and wealth of experience, Dr. Muhammad understands that education is not merely about disseminating knowledge but nurturing the holistic development of individuals. Dr. Muhammad has championed numerous innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing student success. She is dedicated to ensuring that underrepresented students have the tools and support needed to achieve their full potential. By fostering a student-centric approach, Dr. Muhammad has created an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where every student can thrive.
Beyond her role in higher education, Dr. Muhammad is deeply involved in the community. As President of the Homewood-Flossmoor Parent Association, she actively engages with parents, educators, and students to foster a collaborative learning environment. Her commitment to civic engagement and advocacy is further demonstrated through her role as a founding board member of the Democratic Women of the Southland Region and membership in the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Chicago Metropolitan Chapter. A recognized community leader, Dr. Muhammad has received numerous awards for her service. Her advocacy work extends to being a parent advocate, reflecting her belief in the critical role parents play in a child’s educational journey.
A Chicago native, Dr. Muhammad earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and Master of Education in Leadership and Administration from the University of Illinois Chicago, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Muhammad is the author of Women Who Persevere: Navigating Motherhood with Power and Grace, and host of LITE It Up Podcast; a movement where women are encouraged to lead, inspired to serve, continuously transformed, and empowered to uplift others. Balancing professional and community commitments, Dr. Muhammad identifies her most important role as being a devoted mother to her children, Kamaal, Aliyah, and Khalis.

Yvette currently serves as the Office Manager at the Chicago Foundation for Women, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to her role. A lifelong resident of Chicago’s South Side, Yvette has an extensive background in sales and a deep understanding of what motivates people. She also spent time working with the Chicago Public School system, dedicating herself to supporting one of our most valuable resources—our children.
Yvette embraces new challenges, partnerships, and opportunities to uplift and support women across the Chicagoland area, aligning with her commitment to empowerment and community growth.
She is also a proud mom to her daughter, Kourtney, who is currently pursuing her studies at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Jesseca is driven by a profound commitment to ensuring that the residents of the Chicago area have access to essential resources, recognizing that the well-being of individuals affects the community as a whole. From her early years, Jesseca has actively engaged in philanthropy, organizing initiatives such as collecting canned goods and winter coats for local shelters. Currently serving as the Director of Operations and Development at Share Our Spare, Jesseca is dedicated to securing both monetary donations and in-kind items to support Chicago area families in need.
At Share Our Spare, Jesseca embraces the core value of sustainability, overseeing the recirculation of hard-to-donate items and establishing partnerships with businesses to divert waste from landfills. Notably, she has successfully monetized waste, marking a significant achievement during her tenure.
Jesseca's commitment to the community extends back to her undergraduate years in psychology at Eastern Illinois University. Recognizing the critical importance of early development, she became impassioned about disrupting cycles of poverty by ensuring families have access to fundamental necessities. This transformative approach can alter the trajectory for the next generation.
Stepping into her career, Jesseca began in the corporate world as an analyst for Apartments.com. However, seeking a more fulfilling path, she transitioned to Mercy Housing as an Assistant Property Manager, aligning her work with a mission to provide affordable housing and support services to Chicago residents.
In 2015, Jesseca's advocacy for basic needs expanded when she learned about period poverty. During this time, she distributed 70,000 period products, actively combating the barriers that prevent people from working or attending school.
Continuing her pursuit of impactful change, Jesseca seized an opportunity at DePaul University Department of Housing, during which she earned her Master's degree in Nonprofit Management. Her studies deepened her understanding of how direct service nonprofits distribute period products and educate clients on menstrual hygiene.
Outside of her career, Jesseca is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She enjoys crafting and DIYing, as well as, spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Nina.

Dr. Paris Thomas is a devoted health and racial equity leader, researcher, and advocate based in Chicago. As the Executive Director of Equal Hope, she plays a pivotal role in driving the organization's mission to promote health equity and eliminate disparities for historically marginalized communities through culturally competent interventions.
Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Thomas has a deep-rooted passion for promoting health equity. Her motivation stems from personal experiences within her own family, where she witnessed the impact of the healthcare system on their health outcomes. Driven by a desire to create positive change, Dr. Thomas has dedicated her career to promoting health through intersectionality and innovative strategies that improve access to care for under-resourced communities.
Dr. Thomas boasts an impressive academic background, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiology from Grand Valley State University, a Master of Science Degree in Public Health Education from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD in Health Sciences from Northern Illinois University. Her doctorate research focused on the lived experiences of high-risk Black men exposed to community violence in Chicago, shedding light on their unique health challenges and behaviors.
Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has actively led health equity initiatives across various sectors of the healthcare field. From working with Federally Qualified Health Centers to Managed Care Organizations, Quality Improvement Agencies, and Hospitals, she has consistently championed the cause of creating an equitable healthcare system for individuals of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Currently, Dr. Thomas is immersed in expanding Equal Hope's successful health equity model. Her focus includes increasing diversity and inclusion in clinical trials, as well as ensuring reproductive justice for women in Illinois. Alongside her professional endeavors, Dr. Thomas is also a proud wife and mother to three amazing children.
Dr. Paris Thomas continues to be an exemplary leader in the pursuit of health equity and a beacon of hope for marginalized communities. Her commitment to promoting equality in healthcare is evident in her strategic vision, research, and tireless efforts to improve the lives of others. Sandria Washington “The Narrative Changer”
Sandria Washington is a proud Chicago born and raised author, wellnesspreneur, speaker and media professional with a passion for self mastery and collective healing. As an active member of her Washington Park/Bronzeville community, Sandria currently serves as the Director of Engagement and Partnerships for Urban Juncture Foundation (Build Bronzeville). In her role, Sandria assisted Urban Juncture in securing and managing substantial foundation, private donor and corporate funding, including awards from the MacArthur Foundation, Mellon Foundation, Coleman Foundation and Chicago Community Trust. She also manages partnerships with key stakeholders like Northwestern Memorial, Chicago Bulls and UIC College of Pharmacy.
As the creator and Chief (Self) Exploration Officer of She Field Trips, Sandria uses her training in somatic practices and experience as a writer to empower Black women to utilize the power of self discovery and play to "come back for yourself" in their healing journeys through workshops, curated events, online community, and inspiring offline tools and products from her Real G's Move In Alignment brand.
For most of her adult life, Sandria believed her curiosity, sense of adventure, and 20+ year practice of journaling were all part of her natural inclinations toward self-discovery. At age 38, this storyteller's life took its biggest plot twist: Sandria learned that she was adopted. Allowing passion and purpose to transform her pain, Sandria partnered with long-time friend and fellow late discovery adoptee (LDA) Dr. Samantha Coleman in 2019 to create Black to the Beginning, a multi-platform initiative to disrupt the legacy of secrecy, stigma, shame and silence of Black Adoption, centering adult Black adoptee voices and sharing the untold stories of Black families impacted by adoption. Together, they co-host The Black Adoption Podcast, the first podcast focused exclusively on the Black Adoption Experience comprehensively, now in its fourth season. Their work as culture-shifting podcasters makes them sought after speakers, consultants, and most recently contributors to a new anthology, A Year of Black Joy: 52 Black Voices Share Their Life Passions.
Before joining the world of podcasting, Sandria's career as a writer and blogger for print and digital media, as well as an on-air personality on Chicago's WVON 1690AM allowed her to interview the likes of Queen Latifah, India.Arie, J. Ivy, Debbie Allen, Kelly Rowland, and visionary changemakers locally and nationally.
In 2016, the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) recognized Sandria in their inaugural class of "40 Under 40 Leaders in Health." She was also recognized in 2016 as a Chicago Defender Women of Excellence award recipient.
Sandria Washington is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (B.S. Advertising, '02) and completed a Certificate in Storytelling for Social Impact through Georgetown University in 2022. Sandria is a lover of solo travel, live music and in 2023 she took 1st Place in her debut bodybuilding competition.
